Five unnamed top managers from German pharmaceutical group Bayer faced the court in the northern city of Turin over their involvement in the Libobay (cerivastatin) scandal. Last year, Bayer's anti-cholesterol drug led to a number of patient deaths in Italy, as well as wider, causing the company to withdraw the product. The investigation carried out by the Turin court revealed that Bayer had not communicated suspected and known problems with the drug to the relevant authorities. If the five are found guilty, they could face up to 12 years in jail.
